Moving to Milton Keynes
I moved to Milton Keynes September 1977.
My eldest daughter had moved here 1976, I had already thought about moving further north and she asked why not move here. So as her younger siblings heard her ask, we were soon on our way.
We moved the day before the new school term, and at 3am I could not find the suitcase with the ready pressed clothing for school so had to find my iron and start all over again.
When we went out to go to school there was the suitcase underneath a folded down seat.
My son went to Stantonbury, and as our local middle school was still not up and running my daughter was bussed to Great Linford from September till the following Easter,
At Easter the children had three extra days holidays as the teachers needed time to unpack books etc. I had to take leave from work as my youngest was only 7. I had promised to take her to see her to Welwyn Garden City to her old school to visit her teacher and friends it was a lovely sunny morning Debra was watching the tv and I was having a coffee, it started to snow, it came down fast and we never got to Welwyn Garden City till the following morning.
It was quite a new experience being involved with a brand new school the first Christmas,
The carol service was held as a procession round the only part of Conniburrow that existed at the time the teachers had lanterns and after the carol singing the children had hot mince pies.
The road we lived in was only partly built, we were the first in the street and at 9pm without fail an ice cream van arrived right outside my house. Years later he still parked outside my house even though I never bought anything.
